Bohdan Melnyk Obituary

Bohdan 'Dan' Melnyk, a life long resident of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, April 12, 2022.

Born in Philadelphia, Dan was the son of the late Andrew and Eugenia (Plackowska) Melnyk.  Dan and his family were long time members of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church.

He attended Frankford High School and was a graduate of Jules Mastbaum Vo-Tech High School.  After graduation, he joined the US Marine Corps; he served during the Korean War and was discharged as a corporal.  On his return to Philadelphia, Dan went to Temple University and Tyler School of Art where he earned his Masters Degree and went on to teach in the Philadelphia public school system.  He taught at Jones Junior High School for 37 years and was the head of the Art Department there.

Bohdan is predeceased by his siblings Roman (Ray), Irene and Anne Orlock and is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday at 10 AM at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Requiem Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 AM.  Military Honors will be rendered at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery followed by committal prayers.
