Barbara passed away on January 17, 2022 after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer and congestive heart failure. She was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1939, along with her twin sister Bernice, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from West Mahanoy Township High School in 1957 and continued her education at Northeastern Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia where she obtained her R.N. in 1960.
She married William B. Sembrot, M.D. on Thanksgiving Day in 1960 at St. Andrew Ukrainian Church in Blakely, PA. After her husband’s discharge from the U.S. Army, the couple settled in Philadelphia, PA where he established his medical practice. They moved to Plymouth Meeting, PA in 1976 along with their son, David.
Barbara loved her entire family, especially all the children, and was known for her enthusiastic interest in their activities and sports. She was fond of visiting the Jersey Shore and was an avid reader and movie buff which aided her competitiveness during many family trivia games.
She was preceded in death by her husband William, her sisters Florence Schaaf and Lil Maksimik and her brothers George and John Karpovich. She is survived by her son, David Sembrot (Lisa), granddaughter, Kateryna Anna Sembrot, her twin sister Bernice Francaviglia and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her viewing will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 4 PM to 7 PM at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral with Parastas Services sung at 6 PM. Visitation will also be held on Friday at 9 AM with Requiem Services at 10 AM at St. Vladimir’s with interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery.

A 40th day memorial service is planned for Saturday 2/26 at St. Vladimir's for those who are unable to attend this week due to distance, timing or COVID restrictions.
