Anna Zabrocky of Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 at the age of 98.
She was born on May 2, 1925 in Zboriv, Western Ukraine to parents Anastasia (Melnyk) and Wasyl Borosiuk. Anna married Wasyl Zabrocky and, after living in Munich and Mittenwald, Germany, they emigrated to the United States in 1949 with daughter Chrystina. They settled in Philadelphia where their son Roman was born.
Anna was a longtime resident of the Fairmount neighborhood and parishioner of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 24th & Poplar Streets for over 60 years. She was an active member of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America, Branch 10, for many years and continued her membership to this day. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Museum in New York. She enjoyed her work at Cigna Life and Health Insurance Company until her retirement.
Anna never drove a car but knew how to get around Philadelphia and suburbs by bus and loved her life in the city until, regretfully, had to leave at the age of 92 and move to Florida to be closer to her daughter. Anna was loved by many and admired for her sharp mind and spirit until her last days.
Anna is survived by her daughter, Chrystina Barylak of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren Toma Barylak of San Francisco, CA, Tanya Barylak Wirht (Blake) of Chicago, IL, grandson-in-law Gregory Lyons of Ridgefield, CT, and great-grandchildren Molly and Jack Lyons and Burton and Willow Wirht; the Humeniuk family in Ukraine and the Zadworniak family in Philadelphia area and Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband Wasyl, son Roman, granddaughter Andrea Barylak Lyons and a brother and sister in Ukraine.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Requiem Liturgy at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10 AM. Burial of her cremated remains will follow at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elkins Park, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anna's name may be made to: St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 871 N. 24th St.; or to the Ukrainian National Women's League of America (UNWLA), humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
