Pastor emeritus of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Philadelphia, PA, Right Reverend Mitered Archpriest Vincent Saverino fell asleep in the Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
Reverend Vincent Saverino, a priest for 48 years, was born in New York to Emil Saverino and Kathleen Bremer. He met Patricia Brown at St Helena's high school in the Bronx and they were married September 15, 1962. Vincent was employed as an accountant at an insurance company in New York before finding his way to his true calling, the priesthood. He was ordained a Russian Orthodox priest on April 6, 1970 and since 1976 he served as pastor of St. Michael's Russian Orthodox church. During his time at Saint Michael's Church he served as the Atlantic States Dean, was a member of the Bishop's council and was a trustee of the Myrrhbearers convent. He was an engaged member of the Greater Philadelphia Clergy Brotherhood and a strong supporter of the Northern Liberty Neighbors Association.
Vincent was predeceased by his daughter Claire and is survived by his loving wife Patricia, 5 daughters: Anastasia, Barbara, Kathleen, Mary and Tatiana, 1 grandaughter and 7 grandsons and his brother Harry.
Relatives and friends are invited to Father Vincent's viewing beginning 8:30am on Tuesday, September 25th at Saint Michael the Archangel Russian Orthodox Church. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00am with a Funeral Service at 11:30am. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Adams & Ramona Aves., in Philadelphia.
Everyone is invited for a luncheon to follow the burial in the hall of Saint Michael's church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Father Vincent's name can be made to the Saint Tatiana's scholarship fund c/o St. Michael's Russian Orthodox church or to the Morris Animal Shelter.
