Peter "Petey" R. Fylyk died unexpectedly on June 17th, 2019 at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife Debbie (nee Inverso), his mother Sofia (Horina) and his sister Maria Fylyk (Mary). He is preceded in death by his father Stefan Fylyk, Sr. and his brothers Stefan Fylyk, Jr. (Stevie), William Fylyk (Willie) and Bodan Fylyk (Bobby).
Petey was born in Philadelphia and attended Olney High School. He worked in general maintenance in Philadelphia and South Jersey area: hospitals; apartment complexes; and for general contractors. He also spent a few years working in West Palm Beach, Florida hotels.
Petey and his wife met when they were both 11 years old. They married in 1981 … that adds up to 37 years of marriage … of Petey making pancakes, helping to clean and maintain the house (which he loved and which made his wife happy) and watching game shows with his wife (one of his wife’s favorite things).
When Petey wasn’t at home, you’d find him at his mom’s, helping her with the house, driving her to stores and doctors, but above all, he loved to cook with his mom, pray with his mom …. and tease her. Petey spoke Ukrainian, taking after his mother who speaks 5 languages and grew up in the Ukraine. “Petey was a good person, humble, obedient, a good listener and teachable,” says his mom.
Petey was a faithful man and would read the bible every morning. He loved the oldies … on Sunday mornings, he would listen to the Beatles and cook breakfast. He loved to watch the old western TV shows. Petey also loved to go to his uncle’s house and ride horses; he loved riding motorcycles too.
Petey was all about family and he had a heart of gold. He always looked forward to family gatherings; he would bring balloons for the kids and his Mom’s cheesecake. He was always ready to help out anyone who needed his help. Petey will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We will miss his bear hugs, his upbeat nature and his smile.
Petey, you will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts …
