Mary (Mazie) Wilson Boyd passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Paul's Run Retirement Community. She was 102.
Mazie was born on June 4, 1916 in Belfast, Ireland, to the late Thomas, Sr. and Elizabeth (McConnel) Boyd. She was the second of six children, and the last surviving member of the clan.
The family immigrated to America through Toronto, Canada and settled in Royal, PA, a small coal mining town below Pittsburgh. The girls worked in the company store until the family moved to Philadelphia during the war. Mazie and her sister Agnes found work with Whitman's Chocolates, where they worked for 30-plus years until their retirement.
While never marrying, Mazie's nieces and nephews were her kids. She was a master baker and supplied the kids with the best chocolate chips, shortbread, Danish biscuits, and lace cookies you could imagine. Her care packages were always anticipated and always appreciated.
Mazie was a devout Christian and loved the Lord and wondered why he kept her around longer than all of her other siblings. She told several of us at Christmas that she was ready to go home and the Lord took her into his arms on Monday.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service Saturday, January 12, 2019, 10 AM, at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home, 9529 Bustleton Ave., Phila., PA 19115. Viewing from 9 to 10 AM. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA.
