Josef Schnell

Josef was born on May 3, 1935 in Schonfeld, a German-settled town in Ukraine. Josef was one of 8 children of the late Josef, Sr. and Margareta Fischer Schnell. During World War II, the Schnell family was forced to relocate to a farm in Northern Germany where his family lived for 7+ years. In the early 1950's the older members of the family began to immigrate to the United States. Josef arrived in 1952 with his parents and finished high school in Philadelphia. Joe went on to complete an apprenticeship in Tool & Die and started his successful life career in the trade until his retirement in 2002.

Josef met his lifelong love, Margarete (Margie) in 1957 and they married in 1958. Joe and Margie had 4 children - Monika, Joseph, Robert and Linda. The family lived in Northeast Philadelphia and was active in the local German clubs in the Philadelphia area.

Josef was preceded in death by his daughter Monika in 1979 and his wife Margarete in 2010. Joe is survived by his children Joseph, Robert (Lena) and Linda (Bill) Simon; grandchildren Alex, Max and Nikolaus; sisters Marianne, Margareta, and Mathilda; and many nieces and nephews.

Josef passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Arden Courts Memory Care Facility in Warminster, PA where he had lived recently due to his advanced Alzheimer's disease.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Friday, August 24th from 7 to 9 PM at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home, 9529 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19115 and Saturday, August 25th in Church, from 9 to 9:45 AM, followed by Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Maternity B.V.M. Church, 9220 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19115. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Feasterville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Josef's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
