Jaroslaw (Jerry) Iwaskiw, age 90, of (Fox Chase) Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018.
Jaroslaw, son of Hilarion and Tekla Iwaskiw, was born September 9, 1927 in the village of Zolota Sloboda, Berezhany district of Ternopil oblast in Western Ukraine. Forced to escape the Russian occupation of his homeland during World War II, he lived with his parents in the Displaced Persons camps of West Germany before emigrating to the United Stated in 1950.
He worked as a machinist and lived in Philadelphia since 1960, where he was a longtime member of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Jaroslaw was the beloved husband of Olha (nee Sydorak) Iwaskiw. He is survived by his sons Leo (Maria) and Walter Roman (Nila), grandchildren Tania (Christopher) and Roman (Natalka), and great-grandchildren Lily Anna, Luke Christopher, and Artem Jaroslaw. Also survived by family in the U.S. and Ukraine.
Viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Annunciation of the BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church, Old York & Valley Rds., Melrose Park, PA, followed by his Requiem Divine Liturgy at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Elkins Park, PA.
