Ihor Nyszczot Obituary

Ihor John Nyszczot, a retired civil engineer, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019.  He was 67.

He was born in Montreal, Canada, on February 10, 1951.  He was the older of two children.  His parents, Joseph and Maria (Luzeckyj) Nyszczot, moved from Canada to Northeast Philly when John was 8 years old. John was especially close to his brother, Bo, as they were close in age. As they got older, they remained great friends and regularly visited each other.

He attended St. Ambrose School and was a graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School, Class of 1969.  Ihor attended Penn State University and received his B.S. in Civil Engineering.

John first met his wife, Helen, at a Ukrainian American Youth Organization in the late 1960s. From the first day Helen met John, she knew he was the one and he felt the same about her.  Their love for each other grew stronger as they dated throughout high school and college.  John and Helen married in 1975 and were married for 43 years before he passed. Together, they had two beautiful children, Michael and DeAnna. Michael and his wife Tracy have two lovely children, Isabella and Emily, whom John adored and enjoyed playing with very much. DeAnna will be marrying her fiancé Jeff this June, whom John loved very much and referred to him as his son.

John was a civil engineer with over 40 years’ experience all with the same company, AECOM, and recently retired in 2017.  He was known as a hard worker and a fair boss.  John worked on projects throughout the world, including Ireland, Puerto Rico, Ukraine, and across the US.  When he was not building facilities for his clients, he was always there to give his children a hand installing or fixing things around their houses. Though John traveled a lot for work, his frequent flyer miles and hotel points allowed his family to have amazing family vacations. They traveled all across the US as a family, and John and Helen continued to travel in the US and Europe after their children became adults.

John has always been a stable pillar for his family. His quiet calmness, ability to listen, and kind demeanor will be eternally missed.

John is survived by his wife Helen (Maychuk) Nyszczot; his son Michael and his wife Tracy; his daughter DeAnna and her fiance' Jeff; his grandchildren Isabella and Emily; his brother Bohdan and his wife Irene and their family; his Aunt Olga Scafidi and her husband Tom; and his sister-in-law Irene Iwaskiw and her husband Tom Harcar and their family.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday at 10 AM at St. Anselm Roman Catholic Church, 12670 Dunksferry Road.  His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM.  Burial will follow at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to American Cancer Society or Ukrainian American Youth Association (CYM).
