With profound sadness and sorrow our beloved aunt and great-aunt Genowefa (Hawrylak) Szlachtowski passed away on March 2, 2018 at the age of 88.
Genowefa was born in Borownica, Poland, the daughter of the late Jozef and Anna (Lech) Hawrylak. After World War II she was resettled to western Poland where she lived in the city of Skwierzyna; she married Teodor there in 1953. Genowefa and her husband Teodor immigrated to the United States in 1962 and settled in Philadelphia. Genowefa worked her entire life taking every opportunity to better herself. Most recently she worked for Sheraton Hotel in Philadelphia where she received the highest accolades for the quality of her work.
Genowefa, also called fondly “Jenny” by her friends and neighbors, touched many hearts and lives and left many unforgettable memories. Genowefa enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She was known to lend everyone a helping hand and will always be remembered for her wonderful personality.
Genowefa is survived by her niece Anna Jaklik and her husband Wojciech Jaklik of Princeton, NJ: and Zbigniew and Julia Lubinski (family in Poland). She is also survived by her cousins in Philadelphia and Poland.
Family and friends are invited to Genowefa’s viewing beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 12 at Annunciation BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church. Requiem Liturgy will begin at 11:00 AM. Burial service to follow at St Mary’s Ukrainian Cemetery, 438 Cedar Road, Fox Chase PA 19027.
