Eugene Dmytryszyn Obituary

Eugene “Genek” Dmytryszyn of Levittown, PA passed away on December 26, 2019 at the age of 84 after fighting lung disease for many years. He was surrounded by family by who loved him and who prayed over him as he peacefully took his last breaths.

Married for 52 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Leokadia Dmytryszyn and cherished father of Edward J. Dmytryszyn (Cheryl) and Irena A. Dmytryszyn, and the late Emilia M. Dmytryszyn. He is survived by two grandchildren Michelle L. Paolucci (Tony Alicea) and Michael R. White and four great grandchildren, Martin Garcia, Lana Alicea, Antonio Alicea and Penelope White.

Born in Zaleszczyki, Ukraine on January 10, 1935, he was the eldest child of Anna (Stratij) and Antoni Dmytryszyn. As a child during the second World War, he and his family were taken from their home, enduring great hardship and tragic loss to survive, including separation from his father who was never seen again. After being liberated from a Nazi forced labor camp, Eugene, his mother and siblings were relocated to a displaced persons camp in New Ulm, Germany that was established for refugees at the end of the war.

A long-time resident of Philadelphia, PA, his family immigrated to the United States in 1956 where they settled in the Fairmount section of the city. He will be dearly missed and is survived by his siblings Joseph (Anna), Anastasia Palumbo (Tony, decd) and Irene Dawson, and was brother to a sister Maria who died in infancy. He was a stoic man, with a well-hidden soft spot, who liked cracking bad jokes. He entertained family and friends for many years with a beautiful singing voice and by playing the accordion and harmonica.

Eugene was an animal lover, an avid follower of professional baseball and soccer, enjoyed sitting on the front porch talking to neighbors and watching cooking shows and documentaries. He will be remembered as an honest, genuine, hardworking man who always provided for his family.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Thursday at 12 noon at the Fletcher-Nasevich Funeral Home; Requiem Services will be sung at 1 PM.  Burial will follow at Lawnview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations made in his name to the American Lung Association are greatly appreciated.
