Anastasia Tymkiw, 93, passed away peacefully at her Fairmount Philadelphia, PA home on October 11, 2018. Born in the village of Wisłoczek, Galicia (Lemkivshchyna) on January 8, 1925 to Maria (nee Yakhvan) and Wasyl Hocko. She was forcibly removed from her village by German troops during World War II at the age 15 to Rinn, Austria never to see her family again.
She emigrated to the United States aboard the USNS General W.G. Haan, arriving at Ellis Island in 1950. Anastasia was employed for many years by Natalie Dress Company as a seamstress. Later, she was also an office custodian before she retired.
Preceded in death by her husband Petro Tymkiw, Anastasia is survived by her daughter Marijka Hoczko and her husband Chet Wichowski, and her son Peter Tymkiw and his wife Alison and her two granddaughters, Alexa and Krista. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Kataryna Kowal, and by other relatives in Poland and Ukraine.
Anastasia was a fearlessly independent, strong and beautiful woman who loved her family deeply. She loved to be surrounded by nature, the ocean and to cook - especially traditional Ukrainian food. She will be lovingly remembered by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation at 9:00 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 871 N. 24th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Liturgy will be celebrated from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Elkins Park, PA.
